In Borrego Springs, visitors can discover a vibrant community of shops and galleries. The community’s roots stretch back to 1774, when Juan Bautista de Anza traveled through the valley searching for a land route to the California coast and the Butterfield Coach helped pioneer the Western United States.
The centerpiece of the region is the 600,000 acre Anza-Borrego Desert State Park, California's #1 State Park, according to National Geographic. The Santa Rosa Mountains soar 6,000 feet over the desert floor. The region is rich with hiking trails, wildflowers, desert flora and fauna, mesas, buttes, and canyons. Sweeping desert vistas, secluded palm groves, and little-known Native American village sites are ready for discovery. There are fascinating traces of lost civilizations to explore, with more than fifty Native American rock art sites, petroglyphs and pictographs. The desert is also home to big-horn sheep, coyotes, bobcats, and of course foxes. Drop by the Visitor’s Center at the west end of Palm Canyon Drive for more information.
In spring, the desert is spectacular as the wildflowers burst into bloom. Sand Verbena spreads its lovely pink and lavender over acres of the valley floor. The Spiky Ocotillo bush joins in with its brilliant red flowers, and a plethora of other desert plants display their white, blue, and yellow shades of desert color. You can also find many varieties of native flora on our beautifully landscaped property.
Four-wheeled desert excursions are tailored to the interests of your party. They are available from sunrise to sunset for several hours or for an all-day adventure.
La Casa del Zorro is in the heart of the Anza-Borrego Desert State Park. To the east is Arroyo Salado, to the south Yaqui Pass, to the west Hellhole Canyon, and to the north Desert Gardens. Picnic lunches can be provided to enhance your desert explorations.
Borrego Springs is a designated "Dark-Sky Community." Up-lighting is restricted, allowing for an unparalleled view of the night skies. Millions of stars and planets are visible through the naked eye and in August the Milky Way shrouds our resort in a blanket of light. The view from La Casa del Zorro is a moving experience to be forever remembered.
